Hair pudding

For years, YEARS, I have followed the same haircare routine of mousse and hairspray and I don't know if my hair is finally used to it or if the humidity in Nashville is just super strong but everyday I end up looking like a giant frizz ball. So when I was at target the other day I went to the very small natural hair care section and looked for new things to try.  I  picked up some Ors Olive Oil Pudding and some Cantu Shea Butter.  I have used Ors deep conditioning products in the past and LOVED the results.

As you can see both of the products are creams and the olive oil one smells kind of like olive oil while the Cantu butter smells AMAZING!! I have been on such a coconut loving kick recently and this hair butter is no exception, I just want to open it up and smell it.

I have been using both of these products for about a week now and I'm not comfortable giving a full review as I need to use them for at least a month but so far, I have been very happy.  My hair has stayed moisturized and my curls have stayed in tact without being overly frizzy.  There is still some frizz, but I'm in the south and unless I want to use an entire bottle of hairspray everyday I think I just have to accept it.

One of the problems I've noticed so far, and it could be because I'm just not used to it, is my hair stays SO moisturized that I think it looks oily the next couple days. The baby powder has been out and in use for the first time ever. So far so good, and in a few weeks I may have a new update for you.

summer time

Summer is here and so is heat and humidity and working out again.  Really the working out should of continued but life, as usual, got in the way. So I'm back to the grind and following a workout regiment and diet and trying to go for long walks/light jobs in 90 degrees with 90% humidity.  Oh Nashville, I do love you.

To Run Errands

Sweater: NY&CO,  Jeans: American Rag, Shoes: Converse

Still working out how I will take outfit photos.  My house lacks a full length mirror or a good background for a self timer photo, sure I will figure it out eventually though. I wore this outfit to run to the post office and into downtown Nashville to pick up a package. It is casual, and cozy, perfect for running errands with a baby in tow.

Maybelline Master Precise

Everyone knows that the cat eye look is HUGE right now, thanks Taylor Swift.  I bought the Maybelline Master Precise liquid eyeliner on a whim while wandering through target. I had been wanting to try liquid eyeliner for a while but my last memories were using the little pots in high school and I wasn't real excited to smear it all over my face again.  When I saw this pen at Target I decided to give it a go.

I tried it out one evening before bed and immediately smudged it. Then I tried to get it off and the whole area to the side of my eye was black. I was super annoyed.  I got it all off, and threw in a drawer.  A few days later I decided to try it again.  This time I went slow and waited about 2 minutes before touching it. No smudge! This time I was thrilled and actually tried lining my eye...which is going to take some practice. But thats okay, I'm just happy to have found a relatively easy to use eye liner so I can jump on the cat eye bandwagon.

Welcome!

Welcome to my little blog. My name is Marissa, I am a new mom, living in Nashville, TN. I moved to Nashville with my husband in early 2014 after four years of living in Hawaii. In September we welcomed a sweet baby boy and as of January 2015, I will be going back to work.

I decided to start this blog because I like wearing the same things over and over again. I want to stop wearing the same things all the time and actually utilize all the pieces in my closet in addition to adding new pieces that are not black/gray/white or leggings.  After having my son I became very motivated to become the best version of myself.  I am working out and eating better which has helped me lose all my pregnancy weight and now I want to dress for my body.

The contents of my closet are really all over the place.  I have (what seems like) 100 flowy tops, one pair of well worn jeans, skin tight dresses, regular dresses and then what I call my "teacher dresses" from my student teaching days. I'm hoping that this blog will motivate me to wear more than just my "teacher dresses."  I want to look good, and I want to feel good.

In addition to improving my wardrobe, I am also challenging myself to improve my makeup and hair routine.  If you were to go through my makeup drawer right now you would know exactly which products I use because they are the only products I use, even though there are other products in there. And the top knot/high bun, that is my go-to hairstyle.  I don't want that anymore.  Changing my hair will likely be the biggest challenge of all but I have beautiful hair and I should show it off while it is still beautiful.

I think that's it, so welcome and I hope you stay a while.
